This study was conducted using a quasi experimental non equivalent control grouppretest-posttest. Fifty-one newborn infant from a postpartum care center were selected andassigned to two group, experimental and control. Data were collected from May 1 to July 20, 2013. Infant in the experimental group (24) were given massage for 15minutes daily for 14 days. Datawere analyzed using SPSS win 21.0 program by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation,χ2-test and t-test.
Significant difference were found in the ratios of weight gain (t=-8.179, p<.001) andgrow in height (t=-2.850, p=.006) between the experimental group and the control group. Thosein the control group and the difference was significant. Confidence (t=-2.246, p=.029) and satisfaction(t=-6.960, p<.001) in the mothering role was significantly heigher between the experimentalgroup and the control group.
These results suggest that the massage enhances growth of infant as well as enhancingthe mother's confidence and satisfaction in her role as mother. Therefore, the massage fornewborn can be use as an effective intervention.
