Mediation Effect of Resilience between Perceived Stress and School Adjustment in Adolescents

Abstract
Objective
The objective of this study was to identify the mediation effect of resilience betweenperceived stress and school adjustment in adolescents.
Methods
The participants were 268 students, first to third-grade in a middle school. The instrumentsused were; a self-reported questionnaire on the resilience, school adjustment, and stressdeveloped for adolescents in Korea. Descriptive, Pearson correlation and multiple regressionanalyses were used.
Results
There was a significant relationship between perceived stress and school adjustment(r=-.309, p<.001) and resilience (r=-.447, p<.001). The result of analysis of three multipleregression equation showed that resilience had a significant mediating effect on the relation ofperceived stress and school adjustment in adolescents.
Conclusion
The negative influence of perceived stress on school adjustment was decreasedthrough the mediating effects of resilience in adolescents. Comprehensive interventions designedto reduce perceived stress and improve resilience might be helpful for school adjustment in adolescents.
