Health Psychological Factor and Health Promotion Behavior Related to Osteoporosis in Mother-Daughter Pairs

Abstract
Objectives
The purpose of this study is to identify the health psychological factor and health promotion behavior related to osteoporosis in mother-daughter pairs Methods: The survey was conducted by sample number of 214, composed of 107 middle aged mothers and their college daughters. The survey took place between March 15, 2010 and April 15, 2010. The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive, correlational statistic method, and multiple regression by SPSS ver 18.
Results
When there was a high level of osteoporosis-related health promotion behavior and self-efficacy in mothers, there was a correspondingly high level of osteoporosis- related health promotion behavior and self-efficacy in daughters. Especially, when there was a high level of stress management, calcium intake, health responsibility, interpersonal relationship, exercise scale score in mothers, there was a high level of those in daughters. The determinants of osteoporosis related to health promotion behavior in mothers were self-efficacy (mother), health promotion behavior (daughter). The determinants of osteoporosis related to health promotion behavior in daughter were self- efficacy (daughter), health promotion behavior (mother) and health belief (daughter).
Conclusion
Health promotion behavior of mother and their daughters is acting as a mutually important factor, and therefore there is a need of preparing both mothers and daughters to participate in osteoporosis related health promotion program.
