| Abstract |
Objectives
To determine the effects of a multi-cultural marital advocacy program based on the empowerment model on self-esteem, self-efficacy, coping way and family stress in multi-cultural couples.
Methods
A nonequivalent control group quasi-experimental design was used. Participants were couples from multi-cultural families consisting of a Vietnamese woman and a Korean man living in rural area of Chollanamdo. The experimental and control groups comprised 13 and 15 couples, respectively. Data were analyzed using SPSS WIN program with frequencies, χ2 test, and independent t-test and Mann-Whitney U test.
Results
After intervention, the experimental group were significant differences in self- esteem (t=2.313, p=.019), self-efficacy (t=2.668, p=.010) and coping way (t=4.154, p=.000) compare than control group. However, family stress was not statistically significant between two groups (t=1.902, p=.062).
Conclusion
These findings suggest that a multi-cultural marital advocacy program based on the empowerment model will be very useful and effective interventions in increasing self-esteem, self-efficacy, and coping way of multi-cultural couple. |
