Abstract
Objectives
The purpose of this study was to identify differences of influential factors on maternal depression between primipara and multipara.
Methods
The participants (primipara 141, multipara 133) were recruited from the obstetric medical center in a metropolitan city. Data were measured on each participant from July 2007 to September 2007, and analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression.
Results
The depression of the primipara was 6.23 and the multipara was 4.41. 'Satisfaction with a becoming a mother' and 'employed' were 21.1% of the variance in primiparas' postpartum depression. On the other hand, significantly influencing factors on multiparas' postpartum depression were 'maternal infant attachment', satisfaction with a becoming a mother' and 'age', which explained 29.5% of the variance in the depression.
Conclusions
Obviously, influential factors on postpartum depression turned up differences between primipara and multipara. Therefore, it is recommended that the frequency of delivery should be considered in developing depression care programs for the postpartum mother.
