Abstract |
Objectives : This study was aimed to investigate the related factors of cervical cancer
screening and repeated screening, and to propose nursing interventions to increase the rates
of cervical cancer screening and repeat screening.
Methods : Study subjects were 593 women, including teachers, nurses, and housekeepers who were older than 35 years old. Data were collected with self administered questionnaires from July 1st to August 31st, in 2003 and analysed using SPSS/WIN 10.0 with χ2-test, ttest, and stepwise multiple logistic regression at significant level of α=0.05.
Results : Cervical cancer screening(Pap smear) rate was 64.9%, and repeated screening rate was 17.9%. With the multiple logistic regression analysis, factors associated with Pap smear screening were pregnancy experience, perceived benefits of action and perceived barriers of action. Factors related to the repeated Pap smear screening were education level, other cancer screening experience and perceived barriers of action.
Conclusions : Based on the results, perceived benefits of action is related to both Pap smear screening and repeated screening and is modifiable. We recommend the intervention program to decrease the perceived barrier of action should be developed and Pap smear should be regarded as a essential test in regular check-up to improve th rates of cervical cancer screening and repeated screening. |
